Focus

In less than a month I will race my second triathlon of the season, yet somehow I am missing the focus I think I need. I've been getting my workouts in.... intentionally. And I know what I need to do. I had the opportunity to ride most of the course last Sunday and it is a beautiful, mostly flat 15 miler. I clearly need to focus on improving my bike. Logging more miles in the saddle, increasing my speed on the flats, getting more comfortable with going as fast as I can on the bike.

I've made big improvements on my run over the past year, shaving more than a minute per mile off my 5K pace. I've improved my swimming efficiency and perceived exertion, even shaved some time off. But I know the swim doesn't really matter. It is the shortest event, represents the smallest opportunity for improvement and frankly I am never going to swim like a fish. Chances are I am not going to make any substantial improvement to my run time in the next couple of weeks. But the bike, the bike represents a wide open opportunity. So why is it Wednesday night and I haven't biked since Sunday? Lack of focus. I am weeks away from an event where I really care about my performance and I am having a hard time finding my groove.

Tomorrow's a new day.
